When Joye Hummel needed to understand the idea behind Wonder Woman, Olive Byrne gave her a copy of her aunt Margaret Sanger's Woman and the New Race

Special Collections and Archives has a copy of Sanger's Woman and the New Race (which includes an interesting insert), Peter Bagge's graphic novel Woman Rebel, and other titles related to the debates over contraception: was it right? was it legal? was speaking of it obscene? could it be sent through the mail?

We also hold The Virginia League for Planned Parenthood Records, 1935-2004 (M 333) which contains letters and pamphlets related to the legalization of contraception in Virginia and the nation.
