Lorenzo Hervás y Panduro (1735-1809) was a Spanish Jesuit and a philologist. He wrote several books for deaf mutes, the most notable being Escuela de Sordomundos. The full title translated in English is The Spanish School of Art for Deaf-mutes, or the Art of teaching to write and speak the Spanish language. This two volume work was published in Madrid in 1795. The second volume contains several foldouts illustrating the early sign language alphabet.
