Title: ttlg-13
Description: Two images are uploaded.

The kidney image. Staining reveals activated CaMK-II (in red) along the apical surface of cells that line the ducts of the pronephric zebrafish kidney. The cells of the kidney duct are nestled just underneath muscle tissue and both are marked by the expression of membrane targeted GFP (in green).

The ear image. Axonal innervation of the ear into sensory structures is marked by tubulin (in red) and is surrounded by muscle fibers (in green).

Zebrafish 3 day old embryo fixed and immunostained for actin, tubulin, GFP or CaMK-II and imaged using a 100X objective. Fluorophores were Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), Alexa488 (green) or Alexa568 (red).

Two images are uploaded.

The kidney image is the first demonstration of the activated form of a signaling molecule in the kidney of any species and could lead to treatment for kidney disorders in humans.

The ear image has suggested novel ways to regrow auditory sensors within the inner ear.

Embryos were imaged by confocal microscopy (Nikon C1 Plus two-laser) on a Nikon E-600 compound microscope using a 100X oil immersion objective.
