Description: Dorsal view of the abdomen of the southern black widow (Latrodectus mactans). The spinnerets of the spider can be seen at the base of the abdomen.

This image is a dorsal view of Latrodectus mactans, otherwise known as the southern black widow. At the base of the abdomen, the spinnerets can be seen. Once captured and dried through ethanol and lyophilization, the sample was sputter coated and imaged using the Jeol JSM-5610 SEM.

Jeol JSM-5610 SEM used to image the sample at 43x utilizing 20kV, a spot size of 41 and a working distance of 22 with secondary electron imaging.
